Flags of Harmony
18” x 24” POSTER
For centuries, prayer flags have soared across the Himalayan peaks to represent compassion, strength, peace, and renewed hope. Flags of Harmony takes inspiration from these flags in an effort to raise money for disaster relief efforts in Nepal. Please donate $30 to these efforts. Quake and Devastation
On Saturday at 11:56 local time, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal between the cities of Pokhara and Kathmandu. Buildings, major historic landmarks, and areas throughout the region were severely impacted, and powerful aftershocks caused avalanches in the Himalayas. The country is in a state of emergency.
Artistic Response with Prayer Flags
Flags of Harmony was inspired by the iconic Tibetan prayer flags displayed throughout Nepal, especially along the high peaks within the Himalayas. Prayer flags are traditionally represented through five colors, each symbolizing one of the “five elements” within Tibetan culture. Together, these elements are said to produce harmony. Tibetan prayer flags are inscribed with prayers and mantras that are meant to be blown by the wind and spread throughout the world. They promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom; and moreover, they are meant to support all people and things.
